Sexual Wellness Coaching

What is the Difference Between Sexual Wellness Coaching and Sex Therapy?

Sexual wellness coaching is action-oriented and focused on the present and future. It helps clients feel more confident or empowered in their sexuality. Sexual wellness coaching is typically shorter in duration than sex therapy and does not diagnose. A sexual wellness coach may focus on the immediate problem, providing information and practical resources.

Sex therapy, rooted in psychology, addresses previous issues and healing sexual-related problems. It aims to help individuals and partners understand the underlying issues causing sexual problems. Some common goals of sex therapy include healing sexual trauma, addressing sexual disorders, integrating sexual beliefs and values, and understanding the role sexual scripts and societal gender expectations may have on your sexual well-being.

Sex therapists are trained mental health professionals who develop a comprehensive understanding to not only help you with symptoms you are experiencing but also address factors that cause or maintain your symptoms.  Sex therapists must practice in the states in which they are licensed.

Unlike many coaches, I am a licensed psychotherapist with a doctorate and a certified sex therapist. I have combined my clinical skills with a coaching approach that allows me to be directive, giving you results that will transform your sex life. My education and training enable me to bring my clients the best support, techniques, and evidence-based practice to facilitate change.

Why Consider a Sexual Wellness Coach?

Do you want to feel more confident in the bedroom and experience more intimate sex? Are you wanting to learn more about your sexuality? Do you want to be a better lover? Are you tired of not feeling sexually empowered? Do you want a safe, confidential space to explore your kinks and fetishes? Do you need the skills and information to increase sexual pleasure? Do you want to understand your sexual needs and desires better? Do you need practical tools for flirting?

Here are some reasons why people seek out sexual wellness coaches:

You lack the confidence when it comes to sex.

We will explore your sex history and past sexual experiences. Then, we will examine your sexual values, as this is the foundation for building your sexual self-esteem so that you can become sexually empowered.

You want to improve your sexual communication skills.

Sex can be complicated to talk about, and it takes a certain level of vulnerability. I will coach you with the skill set that is needed for expressing your sexual needs and desires.

You want to learn more about your sexuality.

People have many sexual experiences, but not everyone. Maybe you were raised in a conservative home where sex was not discussed, and now you want to explore your sexuality. Perhaps you are unsure of your sexual orientation, and you are curious about it. Are you kinky or have fetishes but not sure how to talk about them? I will offer you a safe, confidential, and sex-positive space to explore your sexuality and offer you resources. I will help you in exploring eroticism, and we will create your sexual and erotic templates.

Sex has gotten boring, sexless, or feels like a chore.

It is common for sex to drop off in long-term intimate relationships. I will teach and coach you with the skills needed to reclaim the desire and sex that you deserve. The goal is to get curious about your partner(s) and creative with sexual activity. I will help you in exploring eroticism, and we will create your sexual and erotic templates.

You experience sexual dysfunction.

After attending medical appointments and ruling out there are no medical problems, do you experience sexual performance anxiety due to sexual dysfunction such as erectile dysfunction,

premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, the fear of painful sex, or vaginismus? I will coach you through exercises that you can use to help with these sexual conditions.

Is Sexual Wellness Coaching Right for You?

Now for the big question: should you hire a sexual wellness coach? Here are some things to consider:

Your level of commitment

Working with me requires time, effort, and often a financial investment. Are you ready to put in the work?

Your openness to feedback

I will challenge you and provide honest feedback. Are you open to constructive criticism?

Your specific needs

Do you have particular areas of your sex life you want to improve or explore? Having clear goals will be beneficial.

Your budget

Sexual wellness coaching can be a significant investment. Consider whether it fits your budget and whether the benefits outweigh the costs.

Sexual wellness coaching can be a powerful tool for improving or exploring your sex life. Working with a sexual wellness coach could be a game-changer if you're committed to personal growth, open to feedback, and ready to invest in your sexual future.

Remember that a sexual wellness coach is a guide, not a magician. While I can provide valuable insights and strategies, ultimately, it is up to you to improve your sex life. Talking and processing sexual difficulties is the mode in coaching sessions. There are no sexual relations or nudity in sexual wellness coaching sessions. Please note that I do provide sexual wellness coaching for those clients who have experienced sexual trauma, but only when the trauma has been addressed first through psychotherapy.

Available to clients (individuals and couples) based anywhere, sexual wellness coaching sessions are conducted virtually or in person (limited availability to New York City residents). They are designed to assist clients with meeting goals and developing skills separate from any underlying mental health diagnoses or conditions. Clients who identify as non-monogamous, polyamorous, and kinky are welcomed.

Sessions are held weekly, with the option to have sessions every other week or monthly. They run for 45 minutes. Please get in touch with (757) 582-3233 or drleephillips@gmail.com to schedule a free consultation.
