Chronic Pain Management

Dr. Lee's chronic pain management group meets every other Wednesday from 6:00 -7:30 p.m. via Zoom. This ongoing group is open to adults of all genders, 18 and up. Individuals who experience pain due to a chronic illness may join. Dr. Lee is asking group members to commit to at least six sessions.

Group Description: Pain is usually temporary; however, for some people, pain persists over time and is considered chronic. Chronic pain creates a reliance on medication and causes emotional distress. It can also affect a person’s ability to engage in occupational, social, and recreational activities. In addition, chronic pain causes muscle tension, limited mobility, and fatigue and creates a change in appetite and sleep. Other effects may include depression, anxiety, low sexual desire and arousal, sexual challenges, relationship challenges, and the fear of re-injury.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy are key treatment interventions used in the group. Group members will problem-solve together about impediments to using the techniques. Group members will share coping skills and exercises they have learned and find helpful. The group is relational, and members will work together to create a safe where everyone is supported, heard, and validated.
